Coherent Processor (CP) is an associative processor that can be used foraccelerating a variety of applications such as LAN routing, neuralnetworks, and relational databases, by providing match, search, and sortfunctions in hardware. The heart of the CP is an array of content-addressable memory (CAM) and parallel processing hardware. Each word ofCAM has its own registers for storing and manipulating results, and aBoolean function unit and priority encoder. The entire array is connectedby a linear interconnection network, and provides a hardware solution forboth vertical and horizontal cascading.Coherent Processor can be configured with up to 32 KB of CAM, and 4 MB ofRAM, and comes equipped with a software interface to allow CP to beprogrammed and accessed from a standard C or C++ program. CP is alsodelivered with a source level debugger to give users all the softwaretools necessary to program the device.
